In this first week of the new year, many of us will set resolutions or goals to better ourselves and our lives.
Some of us will reflect on the past year and may not be satisfied with what we set out to achieve.
This is why, this year, I have decided to set measurable goals instead of vague goals and resolutions which I will likely completely forget about come March!
1. Run a 10k race
Recently I have been favouring my running trainers and the fresh air to the stuffiness of the gym.
Listening to podcasts and running with my dog have made running enjoyable for once, I used to hate it!
I am still, however, not the best at distance running and would love to make it to 10km.
I will be signing up for a local race this year
2. Read 12 books
I have always loved reading, but like many people struggle to find the time to invest in books.
A quote has made me rethink my habits
'You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read'
I really believe you learn so much from reading, in fact I believe you are a different person after every book read.
So I have set myself a goal to read one book a month.
3. Learn 5 songs on piano
I used to love playing on my nan's piano and watching how easily she could play tunes.
Before she passed away last year, my nan let me borrow her keyboard because I wanted to teach myself how to play.
I hope to fulfil that dream and have set myself a goal to learn 5 songs by the end of this year.
4. Pay off debt
I have a car loan which I hate!
This year I want to get serious about paying as much of this debt off as possible - so I have set myself a goal of paying off half of this debt this year.
In my planner I have half yearly check-ins for these goals where I can review my progress and remind myself of what I want to achieve.
Only determination and mindfulness will help me achieve these goals.
Wishing you all the best for 2018!
